 Career Exploration

Members participate, honored for outstanding accomplishments in hands-on work experience

  • In 1999, 3,000 students participated in 21 career development events
  • 2,263 members receive the American FFA Degree, the organization’s highest individual honor
  • 521 chapters recognized as National Chapter Award winners, the organization’s highest chapter honor
  • 180 finalists in the 45 national proficiency awards program
  • 135 students participate in the Agriscience Fair

 Community Impact

The national gathering generates $20 million in revenue for the city of Louisville each year

  • In 1999, 800 local elementary students participated in PALS (mentoring program)
  • In 1999, FFA members and local elementary students gathered 15 tons of food for Kentucky Harvest
  • In 1999, 614 elementary school students learned about agriculture through the PALS mentoring program
  • Over 2,500 volunteers help make the convention a success; 1,000 Kentucky volunteers alone
  • 100 host committee members from Louisville community

 Membership

Today, there are 453,902 FFA members, aged 12-21 in 7,220 chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

  • 35% of FFA members are female; women hold 47% of state leadership positions
  • 90% of FFA members are in grades 9-12; 5% are in grades 6-8; 5% are high school graduates
  • 27% of FFA members live in rural, farm areas; the remainder live in rural non-farm (39%), urban and suburban areas (34%)
  • FFA chapters are in 10 of the 15 largest cities, including New York, Chicago and Philadelphia
